A Year of Poetry and Introspection with Heather Swan


June 6 – 8 at the Soldner Center; monthly Zoom meetings July 2025 - May 2026

Beginning with a three-day workshop at the Soldner Center, join poet and author Heather Swan on a year-long writing journey for poets growing in a community of writers.

The workshop begins at the Soldner Center June 6 - 8, followed by Zoom meetings with your new writing community once a month for the next 11 months, July 2025 - May 2026. The monthly sessions (times and dates TBD) will be generative spaces for writing and will feature a wide variety of visiting poets throughout the year.

Heather Swan is a poet and nonfiction writer. Her most recent collection of poems, Dandelion, was released from Terrapin Books in 2023. Her first poetry book, A Kinship with Ash (Terrapin Books), published in 2020, was a finalist for both the ASLE Book Award and the Julie Suk Award. Her nonfiction has appeared in such journals as The Sun, Emergence, and Aeon, among others. Her book Where Honeybees Thrive (Penn State Press) won the Sigurd F. Olson Nature Writing Award. A companion book, Where the Grass Still Sings: Stories of Insects and Interconnection, was just released in May 2024. She teaches environmental literature and writing at UW Madison. 


WORKSHOP DETAILS

Maximum Number of Participants: 15

Times of the Workshop Event: June 6, 11 am - 5 pm; June 7, 9 am - 5 pm; June 8, 9 am - 3 pm
Monthly Zoom meetings to follow July 2025 - May 2026 (times and dates TBD)

Cost of the 12-month workshop: $1200 payable in 3 installments after acceptance. (1st payment by April 15; second payment by June 6th; third payment by December 31st.) There will be a 10% discount for full payment at time of registration. All payments are non-refundable.

Scholarship: Limited scholarships are available and information can be requested after acceptance.

What to Bring: A pen/pencil and a writing journal. 
The weather in Aspen can be quite changeable in early June. Wear/bring layers of comfortable clothing, an all-weather jacket and appropriate shoes for walking outdoors.

Lunch: Included for all three days along with drinks and snacks

Lodging Information: The Inn at Aspen is about a 15 minute walk from the Soldner Center. Reservation details will be available upon acceptance to the poetry workshop.

The Soldner Center for the Arts and Innovation is excited to announce the inaugural year of the Ginny Soldner Poetry Collaborative. This continuing commitment to the art of writing by the Soldner Center is in honor of the legacy of Ginny Soldner.
